Bending Over Backward and Touching the Floor

I just can't take it. One of the members of my congregation sent a request to our listserv asking that people sign a petition about superdelegates. Some other people took offense, saying that we jepordize our tax status by talking about Democratic, partisan issues. One went so far as to say that if we weren't violating the law; we were violating the spirit of the law. How totally and utterly ridiculous. I deleted that email because i really don't want to waiste time on it; but it's driving me nuts that such well-educated people don't know the difference between the actions of a congregation as an entity and those of individual members interacting amongst themselves. The spirit of our tax status is that we're a non-profit religious organization; we are not an organization whose purpose is the elect certain public figures, nor do we, as an institution, advocate for spefic parties or candidates. Okay, it's out of my system. thanks.
