Reading Barack Obama
I've just finished reading both The Audacity of Hope and Dreams from My Father. I listened to Dreams on CD read by the author, which is always an interesting experience getting the writing actual voice in your head. I bought The Audacity of Hope because it was running neck and neck with that O'Reilly idiot's book on the Times Best Seller List, and I just couldn't let that wind bag get ahead. Both of Obama's books are interesting; he is an interesting human. But would he make a good president? I agree with his observations and opinions in Audacity, but I disagree with one of his basic premises. On page 88 of Audacity, Obama says: "Conservative or liberal, we are all constitutionalists." Wrong. The oil barons in control of the White House today have no interest in the constitution or any basic human rights for the masses. They play along with those silly American myths just as far as they have to to stay in power. Otherwise, they and their buddies -- Americans, Saudis, nationality doesn't matter -- are above these mundanities of 20th century life. I mean that 20th century; Bushies don't want us to leave it, to get past it, to get past the oil addiction of the last century. All of this be nice and work together stuff is BS, it's a totally loosing game for the Democrats, for democracy, and for the future, which requires change. Someone else said it: the Democrats are playing touch football, while the Republicans are tackling for real. So we need a president who is willing to go to war with the entrenched special interests of the past. Although a man of the future, is Obama tough enough to fight?
